Early Travis
Born at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Stockton, Travis would grow up in Lodi with his 4 brothers and sisters, not including the “adopted” kiddos that Debbie would claim over the years. This page is dedicated to Trav from birth through his enrollment in the Navy.
It was apparent from the moment his feet first touched the floor, Travis was going to run full speed through life. Whether on the soccer field or towards his dreams, wherever he was going - he was headed there at full speed.
When he wasn’t running through the house on Banyan Drive, he was wearing out his Chuck Taylors on the asphalt at St. Anne’s Academy, climbing trees at Salas Park, or launching off the roof of our home to belly flop into our backyard pool. It was this rambunctious behavior that quickly earned him the nickname “MONKEY”. Swinging from limb to limb earned him that sweet red cast on his forearm for his Jr. Baseball pic at the age of 7.
Family time in the backyard, on the deck, near the pool during Summertime, sets the foundation for appreciating our tight knit family unit. It was at this home, hanging around with brothers and sisters, probably driving Phil and Debbie crazy, that the Amick children curated our fun and fancy-free demeanor rooted in love and appreciation for each other. If you’ve met any one of the Amicks, you know the love.
Friends and teammates of Trav’s recount amazing acrobatic kicks, hardcore stare downs with fierce intensity, and comical oopsie daisies that alllllmost worked out, but ended in an ice pack. Trav on a soccer field was as entertaining as it was athletic - he was a beast.
Sports were a great way for Travis to release his boundless energy and personality. Soccer, basketball, and baseball were all early pursuits through the BOBS leagues in Lodi. He had big shoes to fill, his older siblings were defensive minded role players in their respective favorite sport. Trav could best express his cray athletic abilities in soccer - with his signature bicycle kicks.
